Officer Rickey White pulled over a car in which I was a passenger on the night of December 27, 2008 at around midnight. The officer gave the driver (a friend of mine) a speeding ticket. During the time when we were pulled over of the side of the GA Highway Alt. 85 in Woodbury, GA, I asked the officer who had already been very intimidating and unprofessional towards us, whether we would be detained for much longer than the half an hour we had already been waiting. He refused to answer me. Politely, I asked again. He glared at me in a threatening manner and, again, did not answer the question. I told him that I had traveled from Pittsburgh on a long and seriously delayed flight with two small children. I told him that my baby was sick and needed to get home to bed. He was swayed in no way to expedite his work. There was absolutely no sympathy shown whatsoever. He offered to call an ambulance (as I am sure he required to), but I explained that a simple virus required in-home care, not the ER. He shrugged his shoulders and continued about his business. Both my friend and I were treated as common criminals might have been treated. I wonder if this officer makes a regular practice of intimidating women traveling alone by pulling them over for simple traffic violations late at night and treating them in such an ill-mannered, callous way. Frankly, I am relieved to have gotten out of that situation unharmed. Officer Rickey White made me afraid for my own safety, my friend's safety and the safety of my children. If my husband hadn't been deployed in Iraq and had been traveling with us at the time, I feel sure we would not have been the subject of such abject psychological intimidation and harassment. It is shameful to have a person who is obviously not interested in truly serving the public, and who is instead more inclined to frighten people through the misuse of the authority granted him by his job, in a position of such power over law-abiding citizens who happen to be passengers in a vehicle being pulled over for speeding. This man should be reminded of why law enforcement exists - to protect people and uphold the law for the greater good.
